Collage and Acrylic paint.
I just recently joined the Illustration Friday group. This weeks theme is 'zoo.'
I'm not linked up to them yet as this is the very first attempt I have made at illustration for a magazine (and it's an imaginary one! lol) and I think I have a long way to go before I am even nearly good enough to join them officaly! For now I am content to watch and play quietly :)
These pengiuns and text were found in an old childrens encyclopedia and I created the background using black and white paint and a pallete knife.
It would be nice to create another using my own photo such as the one below but I have definately enjoyed my first attempt at illustration!

The black and white monochrome makes a real contrast to your previous picture of penguins living in the wild. I suppose this says something about how the animals are kept, that they can't enjoy the full colour experience of living in the wild. However, sometimes I think zoos are necessary for conservation purposes, so all in all they are probably a good thing.
I like it very much though, and reading the text on the piece, penguins could probably manage quite well in cramped conditions!
What do you mean "nearly good enough"!!!? YOU ARE AMAZING!
