A visual diary page that I did trying to get out of the rut I have found myself in these past few days!
I have been thinking about my heritage a lot lately and focusing on native birds, eggs and nests. Eventually my mind came around to the first bird of my heritage and how it became possible to inherit these things. Through the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ himself. I don't think this is an exact scriptural quote but they are the words that came to my head when I asked for guidance. None of this painting was planned, I just did the background and went with what came to me! The bird was painted and the collaged over the top. Overall I am happy with the colours and general balance of the painting and happy to have produced something after several days of 'nothingness' that I am happy to show here! I have loads of ideas in my head now so watch this space! Bird Song

Title: Birds

Monoprints of birds in a 'speed paint' background. This painting is about the idea more so than a technically great painting. It's not. I am currently exploring my own heritage, that is mine as a NZ born person. It occured to me that it's not just the native birds that are our heritage but their song also. There is something uplifting about hearing birds sing, their cheerful chatter as the group together or flit about.
I have been and seen the work of installation artist Mark Braunias this morning at the Tauranga art gallery...www.artgallery.org.nz and I was captured by the images and ideas he was portraying. Some one described his work as being 'best glanced at' which I interupt to mean that you shouldn't look too closely at the finer points, it's not technically correct and finely finished. Just enjoy the images..the playful and sometimes serious capturing of moments and ideas. That is what this painting (that I did yesterday) is about...attempting and hopefully succeeding at putting a sound into a picture..after all the painting is not about the birds but the noise they make. I wasn't going to post it as I thought that it was somehow wrong to post 'messy' work but in hindsight I think that the idea has been portrayed well and there for it's worthy of it's spot here!

I really enjoyed painting this one and it is a definate candidate for a canvas!
I am considering adding tiny text to this and it's not yet glossed as I thought it would photograph better pre gloss! Maybe that was what was wrong with the painting below...I would also do the stars smaller if I were to do it again but other wise I am happy!

I am currently exploring a sudden interest in feathers and nests, this work will quite possibly translated onto a canvas with a few changes made. I think the top right corner is missing something I just hvan't worked out what it is yet!It didn't photograph to well so I may also lighten it a bit. The feathers and eggs have been monoprinted.
