Pulp Redux Peeks

Owl feathers (wing feathers from a NZ Morepork) second hand shop doily, laces and nature dyed fabrics.

I can't say too much about where the story is going at the moment as us pulp girls have decided to keep the last chapter of each book secret...for now...but I can reveal some peeks of what I have been up too in Debrina's book. I'm nearly finished with this book, which is the last in the round for me. This has been so much fun and I'm so glad to have had the chance to take part in this most awesome collab!

I've been holding on to this weathered buckle for longer than I can remember! It's rustic surface is the perfect compliment to the bandage retrieved from my erosion project bundle.

Mail ephemera..leather postcard, vintage WW1 mail envelope and vintage postcard.

Re-purposed fibre and lace...happy sigh!

ICE 2010 #5 and Art Exchange Piece

ICE 2010 # 05
Series: Chain Reaction
Title: Co-dependant

In this collage I've explored the chain of dependancy that we have on the animals and plant life we co-exist with. I've chosen the stitched feathers to represent not just birds but the cycle of regeneration. Birds not only spread seeds directly but play a role in pollination and pest control. I am in total admiration of birds! The numbers represent both the gradual demise of many species of animals and the gradual destruction of land. It also symbolises time, that clock is ticking and if were not responsible with our resources I believe we will eventually find our planet as that X.  The brownish paper has a list of animal origin foods such as butter, milk, eggs and meat.
Every thing we do on has a effect on another part of the chain and we have the power to make decisions that will make the chain reaction a positive one.

Stitched feathers using second hand shop thread, recycled paper from school multiplication graphs, lead rubbings , handmade paper scrap.

This is my artwork for the Art exchange which I have sent on it's way to Jill Zaheer. I called it "Weathered" and it's a nest lino print and a srap weave sewn onto coffee dyed watercolour card. It measures approx 8.5" x 6.5". I am quite pleased with the way this turned out although a little upset I didn't notice the slight fold on the nest! when I photographed it! It's not like that normally so try to picture it without it:)
If you'd like to play in the exchange I am still looking for 4 more people to sign up (so to speak!) It's an easy swap, make one piece of art and recieve many more back! Leave me a comment if you'd like to play!

For the love of Feathers and Art

I created a glue-less collage in my book. It was tricky getting it to stay in place but I like the fact that it is all stitched and not glued. Aside from the feathers my friend sent me there's some postage stamps she sent, a scrap of handmade paper, a happy accident technique oak print, paper from a flour bag and gesso to cover over some random text done in ink. I am using my book to experiment with different collage styles and mediums. The page shown below shows the back of one of my other pages and I used the thread from that page to hold the feathers in place. I feel a little bit 'directionless' at the moment but I am happy to play for now!

Below are the feathers my friend sent! Wahooo!

I have a wonderful daughter (if I may say so myself!) and this is a note she gave me after school one day. I've taped it to the inside lid of my feather box! Awwwww....
Below are a few pics from the place I have been doing my work experience. The scroll says "artistic excellence enables humanity" and above it the Maori translation of it. It's not actually part of the building I have been working in but next to the smokers area. The Minds Eye is where I have been hanging out! I learnt how to set a loom the other day...not sure if I will need that skill later but it was good to learn all the same.

We took part in Clean up NZ week (the great NZ Spring Clean) which runs Sept 4-11. You can see some photos here if you wish!
Thanks everyone for your visits and warm comments. It's lovely to see you all too!

Heritage

Title: Heritage
Medium: Acrylic on paper

I really enjoyed painting this one and it is a definate candidate for a canvas!
I am considering adding tiny text to this and it's not yet glossed as I thought it would photograph better pre gloss! Maybe that was what was wrong with the painting below...I would also do the stars smaller if I were to do it again but other wise I am happy!

As yet untitled.
Acrylic on paper.
I am currently exploring a sudden interest in feathers and nests, this work will quite possibly translated onto a canvas with a few changes made. I think the top right corner is missing something I just hvan't worked out what it is yet!It didn't photograph to well so I may also lighten it a bit. The feathers and eggs have been monoprinted. Please click on the pic to see it in better detail.
