International Collage Exchange #3 and 4

ICE collage #3 'Shape the future'

Laser copied photo (mine), recycled school journal image, recycled bird image from childs book, National Geographic scrap (tree branch image) newspaper cliping (text), tracing paper, coffee splatter, blue thread. The small writing says "planting the seeds of community."

ICE Collage #4. 'Breeding birds'

Nest photo copied onto tracing paper (mine) recycled book pages, recycled magazine scrap, Old King Cole song from encyclopedia, blue thread. The small text clip on the top right corner says " between September and April breeding birds take precedence..." and it was in realtion to clearing mangroves from the shore line.

The first collage took quite a while for me to 'bond' with. The blue and yellow tones felt un-natural to me but somehow I knew that the words " planting the seeds of community'' belonged with the family in the beach image. It felt right to place them together. The words "shape the future" relate back quite strongly to my "Society is a nest" theory which most of my readers will remember. If your interested in reading more please check out my last ICE series.

The 2nd collage took forever! I started off with a clear picture in my head of a layered nest like background made up from different layers of paper and I knew which images and colours I wanted to use. It was the 'putting together' that took forever. I must have sat and looked at different arrangements of those bits of paper for about 3 hours before finally deciding on this one! Now that it's done, I love it and It was worth every minute.
It takes dedication to create a mess like this!

I really like both of these ... and, just think, in the second one you truly suffered for your art. It feels good to work it all the way through, doesn't it?

Hi Lisa- hope you don't mind me feeding back straight to the blog...
Great work in this international collage exchange- you've put alot of work in, made some mess and had fun doing it!! They are all tying together beautifully as a series. Having the theme (birds, nests) helps with this but also by using the same materials in the series; tracing paper, text, stitching etc.
One collage stands out to me personally and that is 'Shape the future' I quite like the splatters of paint- it is random and nicely spaced.. you haven't tried to fit too much on the page. Everybody will have a different favourite I'm sure. So good luck for the exchange and let us know how it pans out- and what the collages are like that you get back.
