One World One Heart 2011

It's OWOH time! This is the first year I have done this and it's also OWOH's last year. Gratitude has to be given to the hostess, Lisa Swifka who has organised this event for 5 years running and has helped introduce countless of people and blogs to each other. Not everyone has been as slow to catch on as me(!) and who knows what sort of inspiration and collaborations this event has lead too? Please visit her blog to find out more about OWOH and how you can participate. The first entries are being recieved now but you have until Feb 12 to get your OWOH post posted!

So, here it is! My OWOH post. The rules say I am supposed to tell you a bit about myself so here goes. I've decided to do this as a list so it dosn't sound like I am writing a speech!
  • Collage is my main art interest. I use recycled materials and a lot of my own patterned papers and images. Recently I've started dyeing paper with Fennel and Eucalyptus and I'm getting a real kick from that. I'm now counting down the days to Autumn so I can collect walnuts and make dye for the first time. All of my collages feature hand stitching using recycled or second hand shop thread.

  •  I love a good collaboration and I am currently involved in a fantastic altered book collaboration. This collab has pushed me in terms of skill and led me to try using fabric for the first time. I've discovered I love fabric! It's so versatile and I can find it in abundance in second hand stores, which appeals to the greenie in me!
  • Last but not least...I love nests! I love everything about them and I am in awe of the birds that make them. I also have a theory that Society is a Nest. A nest is a place of love, hope, warmth and security. It's a place to learn, grow, prosper and fly. Our nests are woven together from our homes, schools, churches and governments and when that nest is strong great things happen. There are many aspects to this, including environmental and I feel fortunate that I've been able to explore the concept through numerous collages. This concept is a true reflection of who I AM and what I believe.

  • My giveaways are 3 LUCKY DIP's made up of paper, lace and ribbon and topped with a collage tag. Little bits for you to use in your own art. They're not huge and I hope to post all of them at the envelope rate and not as a parcel. If you would like to win a LUCKY DIP all you have to do is leave a comment:) Nice and easy!
Thanks for visiting!

I would love a chance at winning a LUCKY DIP ~ that's such a fun name! We share a love of nests. I'm always amazed at all the work those sweet birds do to create one and always amused at some of the materials they use. Dryer lint, shoelaces and scraps of an old towel are some of the things I've seen in nests.

Sewing with fabric combined with paper is delicious. In fact my giveaway is just that. A wee bird sewn using paper mostly, but fabric overlay. Wire feet, wrapped string beak, glittered up, tulle tail, stamped, stuffed, etc. etc. The thing that makes me excited about what you said on your blog is the bit about dying. I am dying to dye. I use walnut stain but it is store bought. I also use Tim Holtz' stamp pad for distressing.
I'd love to have a chance to win a piece of your beautiful work. Please enter my name into your draw, and thanks! Norma (95)
