Inspired by nests I have begun doing paper weaving. After watching the move 'Out of the blue' about David Grey who went on a mass killing spree I felt not only sad for the people who were caught up in it but also David himself. Based on the idea of a nest being a place of safety and hope this broken weave symbolises the break down of the community and society as a whole. The nest failed to protect the egg, out of the hatched a damaged bird which then set out to destroy the nest. Nothing can be said to excuse what Mr Grey did but his actions were (in my opinion) not so 'Out of the blue' as the movie title suggests, instead it is the predictable reality of what can happen when the nest fails to be that place of safety and hope.
Lets hope we are building strong nests in our own homes and towns and protecting all our eggs!

Lisa, this would be a perfect entry for the 2 things challenge "interlace". And yes, anyone can play, there is no registration or anything, just challenge yourself and receive kudos from fellow challengers :)

This is great! I agree that things like this do not come 'out of the blue'. After all children are arguably not born that way, it's what happens to them on the way, and your work emphasises the importance of good beginnings. I love this mixed media artwork!

I agree with you. One of the victims was the daughter of a high school friend of mine from Lebanon. I wish the whole world could see it your way.
